About Mrs. Kolbinger
Mrs. K ready for flight
Hello! My name is Mrs. Taunya Kolbinger, and this is my 10th year teaching. It is my fifth year at Field teaching 5th grade and I couldn't be more excited! I spent my first year teaching 7th grade ELA in Phoenix. From there I came to Minneapolis and taught at Northeast Middle School for 4 years. I have taught grades 6, 7, and 8 in the subjects of Reading and Language Arts. I was also the girls' volleyball coach at Northeast for 3 years.
I am the oldest of three girls and am originally from Mankato, MN. I graduated from the University of MN- Duluth with a major in Communications Arts and Literature and minors in Art History and Foreign Studies. I also received my Reading License from the University of MN- Twin Cities in 2011, and in May 2015 graduated with a Master's of Arts Literacy Education from Hamline University.
One of my favorite things to do is travel. My biggest adventure was when I lived abroad for a year in Birmingham, England and traveled to 15 countries! My favorite place to visit was Dingle, Ireland. I have also spent time in Colombia. This summer I visited San Francisco for a family reunion.
In June 2013 I married my best friend, Joe! We live in St. Paul, and adopted a Toy Fox Terrier/Beagle/Australian Shepard mix named Dora, who is now 5. I have one beautiful, independent, and precious daughter named Gianna "Gia" Rae who will be 2 September 18th. We love her to pieces.
I am so excited to be teaching you all this year. I believe that everyone has the right to be exposed to wonderful literature and express their feelings and thoughts through writing. We will explore many great texts this year, and learn how to write about what we read and create stories. I am very passionate about teaching, learning, reading, and writing, and hope that you will become passionate about learning as well! I look forward to our year together and am excited to have you in class!
